ArchiFiction Achieves Naked-Eye 3D Virtual Reality with GIGABYTE Workstations

by GIGABYTE
n'Space, a projector-based platform, is capable of implementing mixed reality without wearable devices. Users can immerse in a virtual environment and interact with 3D projections without the need to cover their faces with electronics. The real world just got an expansion pack in the infinite realm of the imagination. ArchiFiction, the company behind the invention, optimized the virtual experience with GIGABYTE's solution, which can process large amounts of data with high performance.

Step "Inside" the Great Outdoors: Naked-Eye 3D Mixes Reality with Virtual Projections
Imagine there's no need for VR (virtual reality) headsets or any other wearable device; it's easy if you try. Photorealistic, three-dimensional images can stand before you, as large as life. You can walk freely in the land of make-believe, interacting with virtual projections as you go. The environment reacts to your shifting point of view, whether you squat, stand, move left, or move right. The highly-responsive digital world makes full immersion a reality. This is the VR experience presented by n'Space, an immersive naked-eye MR (mixed reality) solution created by ArchiFiction.

n'Space is used in many sectors; including real estate, where presale homes can be constructed in virtual space for potential buyers to visit. n'Space is also useful in the industrial and tourism industry. Faraway locations can be brought directly to your doorstep. A sojourn into a thousand-year-old cave, or need-to-be investigated sites and factories, may be as easy as simply reaching out with your hand.
The Excellent Performance of GIGABYTE's Servers Makes Virtual Reality Even Better than the Real Thing
ArchiFiction’s product, n’Space, with its combined features of 16K resolution (or up to a maximum of 24K resolution), and the output of photorealistic immersive 3D virtual environment, is capable of implementing mixed reality without relying on wearable devices. The core technology includes the optical projection system used inside an enclosed space, and ArchiFiction's exclusive spatial compensation algorithm that is utilized to capture information about the three key components of any setting: the surroundings, the inanimate objects, and the viewer. Big data is handled by GIGABYTE's W281-G40, which features high density computing and parallel processing capabilities, well-suited to rendering virtual space in real time and constructing deeply immersive experiences.

GIGABYTE's solution can be leveraged for tasks such as data storage, image processing, and rudimentary machine learning. It also specializes in High Performance Computing (HPC) due to its superb processing power and efficiency. It can take on massive workloads, which are commonly found in real-time computing and data analysis. For one thing, the W281-G40 is outfitted with GIGABYTE's MW51-HP0 Server Motherboard, which not only supports multiple processing units capable of pushing performance to the max, but also features additional slots for graphics cards, storage devices, and USB connectors, giving users the option to connect to various storage devices. For another, the PCIe interface allows the graphics cards to run at full speed, resulting in a stable and reliable solution that offers maximum scalability.

Accelerated Multitasking Gives Viewers the Real 3D Experience
Three-dimensional environments are presented as polygon meshes stretched beyond physical space to create the feeling of space expansion. The great outdoor is transported to your doorstep, and site visits are within reach. (Images provided by ArchiFiction)
When three-dimensional models are projected onto a two-dimensional scene, it takes away some of the realism. ArchiFiction offers the real 3D experience by projecting ultra-high-resolution images and using image fusion technology to combine the models into a coherent whole. Viewers really feel like they are "on location". This type of immersive experience is made possible through the integration of three key technologies:

A. Viewer tracking
The device quickly scans the individual to capture relevant 3D data. It determines the person's height, and appropriate viewing angle which may shift according to their pose or their orientation in the physical space. The positioning system precisely tracks and captures the viewer's movements, allowing the projections and visual effects to change in response. The result is a deeply immersive experience where the 3D environment reacts to the viewer's every move.

B. Big data and real-time processing
ArchiFiction has the highest performance 3D visualized platform in presenting all kinds of ultra-high-resolution 3D models in the world. What's more, in order to make things look super realistic, their product not only projects the 3D models of an environment, it renders lighting effects and shadow mapping in real time. Since every surface of the enclosed space is a 4K display, the amount of processing that's going on behind the scenes is truly breathtaking.

C. Visual compensation
Conventionally, images may be refracted or deformed when they are projected onto an uneven surface. ArchiFiction remedies this with visual compensation techniques. The algorithm breaks the boundaries of physical limitations and maintains a flawless optical illusion, so the viewer may remain spellbound in the virtual world.

The server not only runs the above three data-intensive applications simultaneously; each module is also supported by a number of independent plug-ins. ArchiFiction chose GIGABYTE's W281-G40 for its excellent multitasking capabilities and lightning-fast processing speed. The solution was more than sufficient to achieve their goals. Indeed, it went a step further and enhanced overall user experience while improving work efficiency.
GIGABYTE's Complete Product Line is the Client's One-Stop Solution
"When one goes about creating virtual reality, it is inevitably compared to 'actual reality'. So, we had to make everything as real as possible. This was our mindset as we continued to test the system, until everything achieved perfection," says Giorgio Chiu, CMO of ArchiFiction. He commends GIGABYTE for its broad and complete range of products, from servers to components such as CPU and graphics cards. Everything was repeatedly assessed to meet the client's requirements. The n'Space product also underwent a dozen tests or so, before ArchiFiction found the optimal configuration.

GIGABYTE's brand recognition, competitive position, and positive word-of-mouth were all bonus points in its favor. Chiu says the addition of GIGABYTE's servers in the n'Space solution allowed the team to have peace of mind because of their market-proven quality. "Thanks to the support we got from GIGABYTE, we passed each test with flying colors and found the most suitable solution. This is definitely a breakthrough; not only for this product, but also for the advancement of the next generation of ArchiFiction products."

GIGABYTE has years of experience in the construction and development of motherboards, graphics cards, and servers. GIGABYTE’s highly efficient and reliable electronic circuit designs, as well as its top-quality components and production technologies, are reflected in its full range of hardware solutions. These provide a "one-stop shop" for the client, satisfying their requirements while never failing to offer them the last word in cutting-edge technology.
